11 dogs abandoned in Charleston


Agents for the Charleston County Sheriff’s Department are trying to identify the person who abandoned 11 dogs near the Ravenel Game Preserve. The facility director informed her CCSO of the discovery, and an animal control agent transferred the dog to the Charleston Animal Society. The dog is a mixed breed and there are also puppies. Authorities say it’s illegal to abandon pets. Those who cannot care for animals must ensure water, food and shelter. Leaving them outside of an animal shelter will not accomplish this. Two crates containing 11 pets were found near the gates of Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary at 5604 New Road on Dec. 22, officials said.

The facility manager informed the CCSO of the discovery, and Animal Control agents transferred the dog to the Charleston Animal Society.

The dog is a mixed breed and there are also puppies.

Authorities say it’s illegal to abandon pets. Those who cannot care for animals must ensure water, food and shelter. Keeping them outside animal shelters does not accomplish this.
